Review | Side Effects

Last weekend my boyfriend and I went to see Side Effects (starring Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Channing Tatum) at Cineworld in Glasgow. The film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, is a thriller full of twists and turns, and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

It focusses on Rooney Mara's character Emily, who suffers from depression and whose husband Martin (Tatum) is in prison. She is prescribed a new drug called Ablixa by her psychiatrist Jonathan (Law) which has adverse side effects which no one could ever have expected.

Don't let the mental health subject matter put you off here (if that kind of thing normally does). My boyfriend thought it was going to be depressing but he was pleasantly surprised. This is not a film about depression; that is just a sub-text for a much bigger story.

This a film which will keep you guessing the whole way through, and will no doubt have some shocks in store, too.

I would highly recommend Side Effects if you're looking for a clever, sophisticated film that will keep you entertained for the whole 106 minutes. I thoroughly enjoyed it, so if you go see it, let me know what you thought!
