Life | Coolest Hotel in Glasgow? + Fab Food

Shannon Darko

On Thursday at 12pm I was finally free from exams, stress and studying... for a little while anyway! I had just finished my Politics exam and Adam's last exam was the day before so we wanted to celebrate. We had a lovely time so I thought I'd share it with you and let you know about the great places we went so that if you live in Glasgow you can check them out for yourself!

We first went to Toni Macaroni for lunch, where they have a £5 lunch deal, great food and lovely decor, so I'd definitely recommend it!

Toni Macaroni

We then checked into our hotel which was the stylish CitizenM. This was unlike an hotel we'd ever stayed in before, with a massive super king-size bed, a wall-to-wall window and a mood lighting feature. There was also tablet with a personalised welcome message, which was used to control everything in the room - temperature, blinds, TV, lighting etc.

CitizenM Glasgow

The lighting was probably the most exciting part - we could choose what colour we wanted it and if we wanted it to continually change colours, or we could choose one of the pre-set moods such as "relaxing" or "party". It was so much fun to play around with the tablet and get everything exactly how we wanted it. There are also lots of brand new, free movies available which I thought was a nice touch.

AdLib Glasgow

For dinner we went to AdLib, which is famous for its burgers and they did not disappoint! There's a cosy feel to the place and the staff were lovely.

Steampunk Cafe Glasgow

We then headed to Steampunk Cafe for dessert and drinks. We both went for the lemon cheesecake which was lovely and I had a French Martini while Adam had a Drury St Punch, created by Steampunk themselves.

After that, we went back to the hotel for more drinks as the staff very kindly gave us two complimentary drinks as they knew we were celebrating. We went fancy with a Cham Cham for Adam (Champagne and Chambord) and a Bellini for me (Prosecco and peach). The hotel has so many lovely areas to sit in, full of interesting decor such as the big square chair pictured below!

CitizenM Glasgow

We had the loveliest night and it was such a great way to relax after all the stress of our exams. I couldn't recommend the hotel highly enough but I didn't want to ramble on about it too much in this post so have a look at their website to see for yourself - they have hotels all over the world.

How did you celebrate the end of your exams? And where are your favourite places to visit in Glasgow?

Chamed Ivy | Beautiful Jewelry

Just before Christmas, I came across a lovely little online shop called Charmed Ivy. I had been looking for a nice necklace to buy my best friend Lauren for Christmas and I actually ended up buying two plus a bracelet from Charmed Ivy as I liked the products so much!

Please note: all photos in this post are from the Charmed Ivy website (including the header image), so all credit goes to them. I didn't get to take any photos before I gave these to Lauren!

Charmed Ivy Wishbone Pendant Necklace

I went for the Wishbone pendant necklace first as Lauren was looking for a necklace she could wear every day and I thought this dainty one was perfect for that.

Charmed Ivy Yasmin Necklace

I also bought her the Yasmin necklace as it was something a bit different, especially with the different metals, and I thought it suited Lauren's style.

Charmed Ivy Dainty Heart Bracelet

I picked up the Dainty Heart bracelet too as it was just so cute! It's so pretty and would look lovely either on its own or stacked with lots of other bracelets.

Lauren was really happy with all her gifts so I think I done well, and they were all packaged very pretty so minimal wrapping was required from me!

I'd like to point out that Natalie was so helpful! I emailed her with some questions before my purchase and she got back to me right away and assured me that my order would arrive before Christmas. She also kept me up to date with my order as something somewhere went wrong, meaning I didn't receive a confirmation email. This was really great customer service which I think makes a massive difference so thank you so much Natalie!

Charmed Ivy

My other favourite items from the site are the Bella Necklace, Olivia Necklace and Infinity Necklace, as well as the Arrow Ring and Word Stackable Rings.

With gorgeous, quality jewelry at affordable prices, Charmed Ivy has become my new go-to destination for jewelry and I'm sure it'll become yours too!

SOAP & GLORY | GIRL-O-WHIRL

Soap & Glory Girl-O-Whirl

For Christmas I was lucky enough to receive several Soap & Glory products, one of which was the Girl-O-Whirl set which Adam's parents gave me. I thought I'd write a little post about it as it's a great set and it's also currently half price in the Boots sale! Please note: I was unable to take photos in any kind of decent light so most of mine are rubbish - sorry about that! I also used a few of the photos from boots.com for this reason.

Soap & Glory Girl-O-Whirl eyeshadows

It contains six eye shadows which are all lovely. I'm not quite sure when or if I'll use the blue shade but I've already used all of the other ones. They are of a very good quality and blend really well. I think the shimmery purple is my favourite shade as it's just so beautiful!

Soap & Glory Girl-O-Whirl lip colours

It also has six lip shades but I have only used one so far. To be honest, I'm not a massive fan of lip products that come in this palette form as I find them a bit trickier to apply, but the shades are very nice, even though most of them are quite similar.

Soap & Glory Girl-O-Whirl Solar Powder Glow All Over

I was very excited to see the inclusion of Solar Powder and Glow All Out as I have never tried these products but they looked really good. I wasn't disappointed - I love them both. Solar Powder is a beautiful bronzer which suits even my very pale skin tone and I've been using it for contouring every day since Christmas. I think I'll buy it individually when this one runs out. Glow All Out is a luminising face powder which can be used all over for a lovely glow or as a highlighter in targeted places. I've been using it as a highlighter since I don't fancy putting something shimmery all over my face. It works wonderfully and has a nice pale pink tone to it; it also catches the light beautifully.

Soap & Glory Girl-O-Whirl Thick and Fast Mascara

It has a full-sized tube of Thick and Fast mascara which I have been loving. I actually got two tubes of this at Christmas and I'm very glad because it's become my new daily mascara (I use it on top of Maybelline's Colossal mascara - try it, it's an amazing combo!).

Soap & Glory Girl-O-Whirl Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick

There is also a full-sized Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in the shade Nudist. I have several Sexy Mother Pucker glosses but this is more like a lipstick that is quite sheer. It's a natural pink colour and is a really great everyday product.

Finally, the set comes with three brushes - an eye shadow one (surprisingly not one of the rubbish sponge applicators!), a lip brush (both of these are double-ended) and a small blusher brush which I've been using to apply the highlighter. These are not amazing quality but I never expect brushes that come in sets to be great anyway, although to be fair these are better than what most sets offer.

Overall, I really love this set as there is a great variety of products in it and they are all of a high quality. I can't believe it's only £20 in the Boots sale! Make sure you grab it quick as I'm sure there won't be many around for long and you don't want to miss out on this!

Stranded Apparel | Resolution Collection

Stranded Apparel Resolution Collection

I wrote a post on Stranded Apparel's last collection and their next one, entitled "Resolution" has just launched. This is my favourite collection to date and Stranded have really upped their game on this one.

Stranded Apparel Resolution Collection sweater

I'm not joking when I say I love every piece in this collection. There's a t-shirt with a black-on-black design which is definitely a way to my gothic heart! The beanies and sweater look so snug and cosy - perfect for the freezing weather we've been having in Scotland - and the burgundy t-shirt with a football top-like design on the back is absolutely perfect for throwing on for any occasion.

Stranded Apparel Resolution Collection

The whole collection has a clean, minimalist design which I'm a big fan of. The branding is very strong in the Resolution collection and I fully expect to see many more people roaming the streets in their Stranded gear. The brand themselves have described this collection as a "new chapter" and feel that they have really found their feet with their third range.

Stranded Apparel Resolution Collection

The prices are very reasonable at £10 for the beanies, £19.99 for the t-shirts and £30 for the sweater. Don't forget, 10% of all profits go to Crisis and Shelter, and Stranded have paid extra attention to ensuring high-quality products, so you're definitely getting your money's worth here.

Stranded Apparel Resolution Collection

This is just part one of Resolution, so keep an eye out for the second drop, which will see Stranded's first collaboration - with Tom Winslade, Creative Director at Honour Over Glory. Honour Over Glory has long been one of my favourite streetwear brands so I'm very excited to see what's coming next. I will of course let you all know when Resolution Part 2 will be available!

You can get your hands on some Stranded gear at their Big Cartel store here, and you can also find them on Twitter and Facebook.
