Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review | Film Friday #1

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review

Welcome to the first installment of Film Friday - a new feature on my blog! Every week I will post something related to films; it won't always be a review so things will be varied as the weeks go on.

This week, Adam and I saw the newest Captain America film so here's a little review for you all. Don't worry if you haven't seen it yet - I haven't included any spoilers!

While the first Captain America movie took place in 1942, this one is in the present day in the aftermath of the events of Avengers Assemble. Captain America is joined by the Black Widow and Nick Fury in Washington at the headquarters of S.H.I.E.L.D when things start to go wrong. (Vague because I don't want to give any spoliers!)

This isn't the best film in the Avengers series to date and I was left a little underwhelmed by it to be honest. Captain America: The Winter Soldier lacks the wit and personality of the other Avengers films. I remember seeing Avengers Assemble and the whole cinema was laughing out loud throughout the film, but Captain America only managed a few chuckles here and there. I know this isn't supposed to be a comedy film but that classic Avengers humour is really missed.

The character of Captain America himself is not my favourite as I feel that he lacks any real personality and this film just makes that worse because we barely find out any new information about him or gain any insights into his character. When you have superheroes like Iron Man with such huge personalities, Captain America can seem a little dull.

I don't want this to be a wholly negative review though because I actually did enjoy this film. It's full of action, well-directed and it's fun to watch. It's definitely worth a watch and it's a good superhero movie that fans of the series will enjoy. If you liked the previous Avengers films then you will like this, just probably not as much.

What are your thoughts on Captain America and the Avengers series?
